HOLLIDAY Arthur Private 15/1285 15th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment KIA 01/07/1916 Aged 19. Son of John William and Emma Roundhill Married 1888 Holy Trinity Meanwood CWGC 10 Brookfield Place Headingley. Remembered Thiepval Memorial Somme France.

HUTTON  George Arthur 15/49215th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment KIA 09/06/1916 Aged 34. Son of James and Catherine Jane Gardner Bedford Married 1865 CWGC 22 Bainbrigge Road Headingley. YEP reported he was in partnership with one of his brothers. At the time of his death one brother was serving in German East Africa and the other in the UK. JOHNSON William Private 59921 1/9th Bn  Royal Welsh Fusiliers DIED 20/01/1918 Aged 28. Husband of Martha Docksey Married 1914 St Mathias Burley CWGC 13 Greenhow Terrace Burley Road Headingley. Laid to Rest Jerusalem War Cemetery Israel.

 

KEYWORTH Emmie ILS Inspector Aged  27.  Born 21/11/1889 Baptised St Michaels Headingley. Daughter of Thomas and Sarah Eliza Malthouse Married 1883 Leeds Registry Office. 1911 Residing 7 Granby Avenue  Occupation Dressmaker's Assistant. In 1916 the family were residing at 7 South View Terrace Bennett Road Headingley. Her Brother Joseph was Killed in Action 09/10/1917 Aged 21. two years after her death the family posted an obituary inn the YEP. It shows the secrecy of the explosion at Barnbow that she is remembered in the 1918n section of the memorial.

 

Remembered Headingley War Memorial.. Emmie was working in Room 42 at Barnbow Munitions factory Cross Gates when an explosion around 10.30 Killed 35 girls outright. further details can be found at Darren Wortleys Memorial Site to the girls at Barnbow. CLICK HERE

Enlisted Colsterdale the Leeds Pals Training Camp. Went with the Pals to Egypt 22/12/1915. Would have fought on the 01/07/1916 First Day of the Somme. Brother Arthur Edgar fought with the Canadian Infantry giving his life 17/04/1918.
