Occupation Tailor. Landed France 30/09/1915. In the early part of 1916 Joe was in Hospital at Epsom suffering from Hysteria which i assume was Shell Shock. Given 96 hours detention in late September 1916 for not complying with orders. On 03/09/1916 it is sad to see a letter from his sister asking about the welfare of Joe, she tells how parcels have been sent with no reply and asks if the family can have conformation that he is alright. Joe was KIA three weeks previously. He is Remembered on the Thiepval Memorial France.

At the investigation there were ten witnesses including two German prisoners of War. Private 3069 W. Stansfield Cheshire Regiment attached 52nd POW Company. stated "Lorry 4844 became trapped in Mud 100 yards from a prisoner of war camp and Barnet was assisting to move the lorry by throwing stones at the base of the wheels to get a grip, wedges which were holding logs on the lorry came off and Barnet was observed jumping over the first two logs the third hit his head. Barnet was taken to the Casualty Station at Abancourt and died 20 minutes after arriving there. Remembered St Aidens Roundhay Road.
