 DIAMOND BROTHERS

Sons of Mayer Wolf Perelman a Clothing Manufacturer and Hannah Chenyar Fidler.

Thank you to Gillian Bullock a relative from New South Wales Australia for the following family information.

Parents Hannah (nee Chenya Fidler) and Mayer Wolf Diamond (Born Perelman but when arrived in Hull apparently showed a ring to signify their surname and the official wrote down Diamond rather than Perelman) in Jakobstadt Latvia (now Jakobpils).

I visited there last year but found no trace of the family. Both Julius and Joseph were born in Leeds. My grandmother (their sister) Esther married Robert Finniston in Leeds in 1910 and she was not on the 1911 census for Grimston Street Leeds so obviously living in Glasgow by then (the Finnistons had settled there) and eldest son Abraham was living with them.

The family relocated to Glasgow in 1913. Both brothers are remembered on the Jewish Ex Serviceman's War Memorial Glasgow which remembered the 70 Jews from the City who gave their lives in WW1.

Erected originally in the South Portland Street Synagogue in 1922 it can now be found in the Jewish Prayer Room Barlanark Glasgow.

The following three Jews from Leeds who moved to Glasgow can also be found on the memorial

(Jacob Brem, Edward Bloomfield, Morris Rosenbloom)
