BRIGGS Orriel Captain 8th Bn Somerset Light Infantry KIA 04/11/1918 Aged 30. Born Leeds 1888 Baptised October 1888 Leeds All Hollows. Son of Charles William and Sophia Cox Married 1887 All Souls Leeds. Husband of Edith May Longfield Married 20/08/1916 at St Michael Headingley. CWGC Morton House 57 Regent Road Great Yarmouth. Enlisted into the 15th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment the Leeds Pals at Leeds Town Hall in September 1914 in the October was Commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. Went to France in 1915 and was wounded in the December of that year. On recovering he became adjutant at a training camp at Ripon, and in December 1917 was again sent to France where he was transferred to the 8th Bn Somerset Light Infantry, and was promoted to Captain and Adjutant. Orriel lost his life leading his men into action 04/11/1918 shot by a sniper through the heart whilst leading a raiding party. It was reported at the time that : "Captain Briggs was greatly beloved and admired both by his men and fellow officers." Also remembered Leeds Boys Modern and St Michaels Headingley.
