1915: Enlisted Carlton Barracks Residence No 5 Britania Yard Saville Street Off West Street  described as being 5 feet 6 1/2 Inches tall.  was found to be unfit at Clipstone Camp.

1918: Passed away Bronchitis (Spanish Flu)

Rifleman 2784 1/8th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment DOW 20/07/1916 Aged 40. 

​

1889: Born Hampthswaite Son of  Robert and Maria.

​

1903: Charged 10th January stealing plasterers tools. sent to jail for one months hard labour. Robert is reported  in the Leeds Mercury to have said "Your worships i should like to pass you the compliments of the season. It is the first xmas box i have had all year," which was greeted with loud laughter around the court.

​

1908: Sent to prison 23rd May for 3 months hard labour after breaking into the Pelican Pavilion Potternewton Park and stealing a six chambered revolver and a ladys ring. Robert said drink had drove him to it.

​

1911: Residence 58 Sandhurst Place Harehills Occupation Plasterer. 

​

1915: Landed France 16th April.

​

1916: Pension record states Roberts Mother Maria was Resident at No 260 Meanwood Road.

​

1918: Died of Wounds in Oxford. Laid to Rest Leeds General Cemetery Woodhouse 24th July.

1915: Landed Egypt 22nd December to defend the Suez Canal with the Leeds Pals.

​

1916: Landed Marsailles in France and moved North for the attack on the village of Serre where Arthur was injured on the 1st July.

​

1916: Died of Wounds at Fazackerley Hospital Liverpool. Laid to Rest two days later at 15.30 Leeds General Cemetery Woodhouse alongside his father.

1918: Enlisted 25th January into the Royal Navy as a fitter. Described as being 5ft 43/4 inches tall chest size of 37 inch grey eyes with Brown Hair and a fresh complexion. Joined Royal Air Force 26th February.

1918: Passed away Felixstowe Air Station after being struck on the head by a propeller whilst testing new aircraft. His accident being recorded in the Berkshire Times and Hartlepool News. CWGC stated Mother Rose Ann Residing No 59 Harold Grove Cardigan Road.

​

​

1890: Born Leeds Son of Edwin James and Mary Jane Baines.

​

1908: Enlisted 24th January at Pontefract described as being 5ft 5 inches tall brown eyes brown hair with a fresh complexion.

​

1915: Landed France 15th January Sent to Gallipoli 25th September.

​

1916: Edwin Service Record states that he was Awarded the Victoria Cross and that it would be placed in the London Gazette on the 22nd July:

​

"For conspicuous gallantry in the Gallipoli Peninsula, when he assisted an Officer in two reconnaissances of the enemy's positions and working parties, and also in siting a work on an exposed position under heavy fire." 

 

However this was downgraded to the second highest honour for bravery Edwin being awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

​

1916: Landed France 27th June. On the 9th September received a Gun Shot Wound to the Neck.

​

1916: Married Annie Elizabeth Umpleby 18th November at St Michaels Buslingthorpe.

1914: Enlisted Halifax 8th September.

1914: Married to Ada Newby CWGC No 5 Ellerby Street Easy Road 

​

1915: Discharged 28th May Pulmonary Tuberculosis both Lungs. Passed away due to illness Laid to Rest next to his Father 23rd June.

​

1923: Death of Mother Elizabeth who was Laid to Rest next to Percy and her Husband William 02nd March.

RUSHFORTH John

Rifleman 4099 1/8th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment DOW 19/07/1916 Aged 31.

​

1884: Born Hunslet Vol 9b Page 497 14th December. Son of  John and Mary Ann Morgan.

​

1885: Baptised St Andrews 05th August.

​

1905: Married Mary Davis Holy Trinity Church Armley Hall.

​

1911: Residence No 1 Lisbon Court Off Wells Street Occupation Cloth Miller Labourer.

​

1915: Enlisted Leeds.

​

1916: John took part in the Somme offensive on the 01st July in reserve at Thiepval Wood and possibly survived the first offensive being injured on the 16th July when the 1/8th Bn West Yorks who were involved in fighting at the Leipzig Redoubt in the Thiepval area, John being transported back to to the UK.

​

1916: Passed away wounds received to the head at No1 West General Hospital Fazakerley Liverpool. John was laid to rest 22nd July, along with 17 others in a Guinea Grave.
